This album is an imaginary soundtrack to the events that took place in Strasbourg in 1518 during the massive poisoning of the city with hallucinogenic ergot in bread and the collective mania that took over the inhabitants.

Dance Epidemic - Greatest Hits A.D. 1518 to dziesiąty album grupy kakofoNIKT, ukazujący się w 15 roku istnienia zespołu. Wydawnictwa wyrastające z korzeni muzyki industrialnej, psychodelicznej i okultystycznej różniły się stylistyką, ale zawsze sięgały do tradycji "koncept albumów" - tytuły i oprawa wizualna były tożsame z treścią. kakofoNIKT od lat eksperymentuje nie tylko na poziomie samej muzyki czy instrumentarium, ale także tego co Al Hubbard, Ludwig von Bertalanffy i Timothy Leary nazywali "set and setting". O ile w trakcie koncertów te okoliczności wprowadzania słuchaczy w określony stan umysłu osiągane są za pomocą doboru i przetwarzania przestrzeni lub specyficznego czasu (np. koncerty o 5 rano, czy trwające 8 godzin), to w przypadku nagrań studyjnych tę funkcję pełni kontekst utworów, swoiste tworzenie mitu w obrębie zespołu (doświadczenie kaktusowe, sterowanie snami, tradycje obrzędowych stosowania roślin i grzybów psychoaktywnych).

Dance Epidemic jest fantazją zespołu na temat wydarzeń, które miały miejsce w miejscowości Strasbourg nad rzeką Ren w 1518 roku. Mieszkańcy wpadli wówczas w samoczynny, niespodziewany amok taneczny. Była to epidemia w tym sensie, że według podań zaczęła się od jednej osoby (zwanej Frau Troffea), która nagle zaczęła... more
